thanks for this information - sent in my letter to the house delegate sponsers. getting ready to send it over to the senator sponsors. I appreciate the origins of that bill because the staff i managed to reach did not know. and they probably would not have said anyway. i shared the link tree to my twitter (@tthiking).

I am so disappointed in MD about this and told them that LOL yes, i am old enough to be Jeff W.'s mother LOL

I plan on submitting written testimony as well for the senate hearing. I learned about it too late for the house. but i got everyone called yesterday and expressed my strong opposition

Don, I love your work, and I'm confused. This ban is proposed by Jewish and Black Democrats to purportedly address masked intimidation and hate crimes. The bill allows masks worn for PPE and 6 other reasons. What am I missing?

This bill is a very slippery slope...with zero explanation of how people can provide evidence that they need a mask to protect themselves - whether it's because they are covid cautious or disabled or immunocompromised or sick. And then once that's finally defined (if ever), the onus is on that community, which is another unfair burden. But perhaps more importantly, cops will be allowed to use their discretion to target/profile mask wearers. This opens the door to additional racial profiling, harassment, discrimination against people of color and other marginalized communities that are, for instance, using their right of free speech to protest very legitimately. And now with the new administration, a simple peaceful protest could be deemed as a "threat" and lead to arrests of peaceful, mask-wearing protestors, if cops get the order to do so...Slippery slope. We have the right to protest peacefully, protest safely, and be anonymous if we want.

With the politicization of mask wearing across the country, it's not surprising to me that politicians would push anti-mask legislation under the guise of "combatting hate and intimidation," further stigmatizing mask wearing for all of us who rely on them for our health and survival.

It's being put up by the ADL as an infringement on our rights.

Their claims are false.

The exact same bill has also now appeared in Texas and Indiana FYI.

What's the full list of states currently? Have there been any updates?

I'm looking to do something on this.

I think it’s Texas Indiana and Maryland (beyond the already passed Nassau county ny bill) but to be honest I have not been tracking nationally - just focusing more locally at the moment.

But it’s clear that the Manhattan Institute + the ADL are behind a lot of these
